The Ministry of Education is fully prepared for the transition of Grade 8 learners to Grade 9 under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), as Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba assures the nation. Speaking at a ceremony in Rongena Manaret, Sotik, Bomet County, Ogamba emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth transition for students, particularly with the completion of 13,500 classrooms specifically designed for Grade 9 students.
With an additional 2,500 classrooms expected to be finalized by the end of January, the government is making significant strides in preparing for this major shift in the education sector. Ogamba confirmed that the classrooms are ready and the final touches are being made to the remaining facilities to accommodate all students effectively.
The transition of Grade 8 learners to Grade 9 represents a critical phase in Kenya’s education reforms, as the CBC system takes full effect in shaping the future of the country’s education landscape. This move is part of the ongoing effort to ensure that students are equipped with the necessary skills and competencies to thrive in the ever-changing world.
In his address, Ogamba also tackled the issue of safety in boarding schools. While some schools have been flagged for not meeting the required safety standards, the CS reassured the public that those that comply with the Ministry’s regulations will be allowed to reopen. Schools that fail to meet these safety benchmarks will remain closed until they are up to standard, prioritizing the welfare of students.
Furthermore, Ogamba reiterated the government’s 100% transition policy, working closely with local administration officers to ensure no learner is left behind after the festive break. The government’s dedication to education access and equity remains steadfast, as it continues to ensure that all learners can pursue their education without barriers.
This transition marks a pivotal moment in Kenya’s educational reforms, with the Ministry of Education’s efforts ensuring the successful support of learners during this crucial time.
