Nyaboke Moraa, a well-known Kenyan content creator and former Tahidi High actress, has been through an unimaginable amount of grief in recent years. From the loss of her baby daddy, renowned rugby coach Benjamin Ayimba, to the tragic passing of her firstborn daughter, her brother, niece, and most recently, her father, Nyaboke’s life has been marked by profound sorrow.
In a deeply emotional post, Nyaboke opened up about the toll these repeated losses have taken on her life. She shared the pain of being abandoned by a man she had planned to spend her life with, who was advised by his friends to leave her due to the “curse” of death that seemed to follow her. Nyaboke’s candid expression of heartache reflected the devastating weight of losing so many loved ones, one after another, in a short span of time.
A Life Shattered by Grief
Nyaboke’s grief journey began with the loss of her ex-partner, Benjamin Ayimba, a prominent figure in Kenyan rugby, who passed away on May 21, 2021, at the age of 44. Ayimba succumbed to cerebral malaria while undergoing treatment at The Kenyatta National Hospital. His death marked a significant blow to Nyaboke, as they shared two sons together, leaving her to raise their children alone.
Just a few years later, the grief intensified when Nyaboke lost her firstborn daughter, Marrie, on July 28, 2024. The loss of her daughter sent Nyaboke into a whirlwind of emotions, and actress Sandra Dacha, a close friend of Nyaboke, shared the sad news with the public. “It is with profound sadness that I announce to you the passing on of @nyabokemoraa’s daughter. Your prayers are what she needs right now,” Sandra wrote on social media. The death of her daughter was a devastating blow for Nyaboke, who was already grappling with the loss of her ex-partner and the emotional scars left by his passing.
The agony of losing Marrie was compounded by the subsequent death of Nyaboke’s brother, who passed away suddenly on June 10, 2024. In a poignant message, Nyaboke mourned her sibling, sharing that she had eagerly awaited his arrival for a family reunion that never happened. “One minute we are happy and enjoying, the next minute we are lost,” she wrote.
As if the pain of losing a brother wasn’t enough, Nyaboke’s family was hit once again by the tragic loss of her niece in 2023. With each loss, Nyaboke’s heart seemed to break a little more, and yet the pain was not over. In October 2024, just a few months after losing her daughter, Nyaboke’s father passed away. The same day, exactly three months after her daughter’s death, her “solid rock,” as she described him, left this world. In an emotional post, Nyaboke shared her father’s final words: “Nyargot baby, I love you and God loves you so much, tulia tu, mama.” His passing left Nyaboke devastated, as she grappled with the loss of yet another pillar of support.
The Struggle to Heal
Nyaboke’s grief has been relentless. In one of her more recent posts, she admitted to feeling as if she were losing herself in the overwhelming pain. “I am in so much pain, so much that I feel like I am losing it,” she shared. The weight of these losses has been almost unbearable, and it seems as though 2024 has been a particularly cruel year for her family. She expressed her sorrow, saying, “Ei, I am in so much pain, so much that I feel like I am losing it. Rest in peace, Baba. Hii mwaka nayo imeamua kupumzika, ntapumzikia mbinguni.”
Yet, even amidst this intense sorrow, Nyaboke’s resilience shines through. In a testament to her strength, she shared that despite everything, she still has plans for a wedding in August. “I have a wedding in August, who wants to be on the list so I don’t forget them?” she wrote, a sign that despite the overwhelming grief, she is determined to find moments of joy in the future.
