Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale recently chaired a crucial meeting with the senior management of the Ministry of Health at Afya House, Nairobi, on April 2, 2025. The focus of the meeting was to discuss strategic priorities that will strengthen healthcare delivery across Kenya.
In his address, Hon. Duale emphasized the importance of prioritizing national interests and reaffirmed that healthcare is a critical pillar of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He highlighted the government’s unwavering commitment to achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC), a key objective that aims to ensure all Kenyans have access to affordable and quality healthcare services. Central to this goal is the successful implementation of the Social Health Authority (SHA), a key initiative that seeks to expand healthcare access nationwide.
Hon. Duale stressed the need for efficiency, accountability, and integrity in the management of health resources. He called for a strict adherence to constitutional and legal frameworks governing the sector, emphasizing that following relevant laws and legal notices is vital for ensuring good governance and the effective functioning of healthcare systems. By ensuring these legal frameworks are respected, the ministry can maintain public trust and ensure resources are used responsibly to achieve health objectives.
Teamwork and collaboration within the Ministry of Health were also central themes in the meeting. The Cabinet Secretary encouraged officials to foster a spirit of cooperation, understanding that collective effort is essential for effective service delivery. He urged ministry officials to focus on providing high-quality services to the public, while maintaining a keen eye on the efficient use of public resources. Hon. Duale reiterated that professionalism, integrity, and diligence in the execution of their duties are crucial to achieving the Ministry’s goals. Only through consistent and responsible management can Kenya meet its health targets and improve the well-being of its citizens.
Another critical area that Hon. Duale addressed was the importance of prudent resource utilization. The ministry is tasked with overseeing significant public funds, and the Cabinet Secretary stressed the need for these funds to be allocated and used in a manner that maximizes impact on healthcare outcomes. Ensuring that resources are efficiently managed not only strengthens healthcare delivery but also promotes sustainability in Kenya’s healthcare system.
In attendance at the meeting were key health leaders, including Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, Ms. Mary Muthoni, and Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth. Both leaders, alongside other senior officials, were tasked with supporting the ministry’s goals and working towards the successful execution of the priorities discussed. The focus on cooperation and transparent management of resources was reinforced, as the leadership team sought to align its efforts with the broader vision of improving Kenya’s healthcare system.
Hon. Duale’s meeting underscored the government’s commitment to delivering a healthcare system that serves all Kenyans equitably and efficiently. By adhering to legal and constitutional guidelines, and through teamwork and accountability, the Ministry of Health aims to build a sustainable healthcare system that meets the evolving needs of the population. As Kenya strives toward achieving Universal Health Coverage, the leadership of the Ministry of Health remains focused on strengthening the country’s healthcare infrastructure, ensuring that no one is left behind in accessing the services they need.
