Kiambu Level 5 Hospital has unveiled new endoscopy services, marking a significant milestone in the county’s healthcare advancements. The introduction of an endoscopy machine is expected to enhance early detection of various gastrointestinal conditions, such as esophageal cancers, ulcers, and other disorders that often require timely diagnosis and intervention. This new service offers hope for patients in Kiambu and surrounding counties, as it facilitates more accurate and less invasive examinations compared to traditional methods.
During the inauguration, Dr. Patrick Nyaga, the Chief Officer of Health Services in Kiambu County, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, noting that it is a part of a broader effort to modernize healthcare in the region. Dr. Nyaga emphasized that the newly introduced endoscopy equipment is part of a larger procurement initiative by the county government, which has invested over 500 million shillings in acquiring advanced medical tools. He stated that the endoscopy services would not only enhance the quality of care but also reduce surgical waiting times, providing patients with quicker, more efficient diagnoses and treatments.
In a significant move toward improving healthcare skills in the region, Dr. Nyaga revealed that over 20 doctors are already undergoing training in endoscopic procedures. This specialized training will ensure that the hospital can manage up to 30 endoscopy cases daily, further alleviating the burden on local healthcare systems.
Dr. Pankajani, a retired gastrointestinal surgeon from the University of Nairobi and past president of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA), highlighted the importance of this initiative for both Kiambu County and the wider healthcare community. He praised the hospital’s efforts in embracing modern medical technology to enhance patient outcomes, stating that the program would serve as a model for other counties in the region.
The endoscopy services at Kiambu Level 5 Hospital represent a major step forward in providing high-quality, specialized care to patients, contributing to the overall improvement of health services in the county.
