Hitches as Kenyans Were Unable to Join President Ruto’s X Space

President William Ruto’s Space conversation faced significant technical difficulties, leaving many Kenyans, particularly the youth, frustrated and unable to join. The event, which was scheduled to provide a platform for discussing critical issues affecting the nation, began an hour late and was marred by persistent technical glitches.

The Space conversation, aimed at engaging Generation Z on issues beyond politics and political affiliations. However, participants reported that the event did not begin an hour later. When President Ruto finally initiated the discussions, he expressed his gratitude to the youth for focusing on substantive issues.

“I want to thank the Gen Zs for engaging in matters that are based on issues and not about politics or political affiliation,” Ruto stated, setting a positive tone for the conversation.

Shortly after the conversation began, the event encountered significant technical problems. Participants reported that the audio went mute, leaving them unable to hear the President’s remarks. Background conversations were faintly audible, with President Ruto seemingly discussing with his staff to determine if he could be heard by the audience.

The technical hitches were not isolated incidents. Many Kenyans took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the experience, noting that they had looked forward to engaging directly with the President on pressing national issues.

“It’s disappointing that such an important conversation is disrupted by technical issues. We need better preparation for future engagements,” tweeted one user.

Another commented, “This was a great opportunity for the youth to speak directly to the President. The technical issues are a major letdown.

While the intent behind the Space conversation was commendable, the execution highlighted the need for better technical preparedness in future virtual engagements. As digital platforms become increasingly integral to political and civic discourse, ensuring their reliability is crucial.
