The disturbing footage was discovered by the child’s mother, who had been reviewing the footage to check the progress of the home inspection. Instead, she was horrified to find that the inspector, Kevin Wayne VanLuven, had violated her trust in the most unsettling way.
The footage depicted VanLuven standing in front of the bedroom closet, facing away from the camera, as he engaged in the act. Afterward, he quickly adjusted himself and placed the doll out of sight. As he did so, the doll emitted its signature prerecorded laugh. VanLuven briefly glanced at the camera, which made the moment even more chilling. The mother, who had a toddler and a newborn baby at home, expressed her deep concern over the incident, questioning the safety of her children and the potential risks involved. She wondered if VanLuven had any contagious diseases, considering that the doll had been handled by her child.
The case led to VanLuven’s conviction on charges of aggravated indecent exposure in October 2022. However, he was acquitted of malicious destruction of personal property, with the jury finding insufficient evidence to support that charge. Despite the severity of the crime, VanLuven’s sentence was relatively light. He was sentenced to just 19 days in jail, with credit for time already served, and placed on 18 months of probation.
