Huddah Monroe, the veteran socialite turned beauty mogul, has once again set the internet ablaze with her polarizing remarks on reality TV. Ironically, Huddah, who once graced screens on Big Brother Africa and other shows, expressed her disdain for the genre and its perceived lack of value, a stance that has stirred up both unity and controversy among Kenyan netizens.
Taking to her Instagram stories, Huddah dismissed reality TV as “nonsensical,” adding that such shows, including trending ones like Young, Famous & African, fail to contribute anything meaningful to viewers’ lives. “In all honesty, after watching all these reality shows, how did it change your life? Did you learn anything?” she questioned. Huddah went further, claiming she’d rather watch animal content online than a reality show or lifestyle vlog, quipping, “I’d rather watch videos of dogs and cats before I watch a reality show… I can’t even watch myself!”
Her comments struck a nerve among netizens, with many accusing her of bitterness and envy. Critics argued that her remarks stem from her absence on contemporary reality shows, with one user noting, “She sounds jealous and bitter. Girl bye!” Another opined, “She’s bitter because she doesn’t get such offers.”
Despite the backlash, some supported Huddah’s perspective, citing the genre as purely entertainment rather than educational. One commenter reasoned, “We go to school to learn. Watching is for entertainment.” Others advised Huddah to appreciate and support the success of others instead of dismissing it outright.
Interestingly, this is not the first time Huddah has addressed the topic. During an August 2024 Q&A, she revealed she would consider returning to reality TV but cited financial disagreements with producers as the reason for her absence. “They can pay me enough, but they refuse to,” she remarked.
Earlier this year, Huddah overhauled her social media presence, deleting her photos and limiting her posts. When questioned about this, she stated, “I lost interest in sharing all the details of my life publicly… I’ll post what’s necessary.”
While Huddah’s candidness has always been a part of her charm, her latest comments have reignited debates about the relevance and impact of reality TV. Whether her remarks stem from genuine disinterest or strategic controversy, they have undeniably kept her name in the limelight.
