Rodrigo Esponda, Managing Director of Los Cabos Tourism, shared his vision for the project: “Our goal was to position Los Cabos as a leading destination not just in Mexico and Latin America, but globally by integrating tools that provide both consumers and the industry with a cutting-edge experience. Developing this digital ecosystem took years of planning to align our vision with the most innovative technologies available.”
Los Cabos has seen impressive growth in tourism, welcoming 3.7 million visitors in 2024, including 2.3 million from the U.S. While this figure mirrors the previous year, Esponda highlighted that the destination is attracting more long-term visitors who truly engage with the local culture and offerings. “We’re not focusing on the volume of arrivals, but on attracting travelers who will stay longer and experience more of what we have to offer,” he said. This strategic shift has resulted in an increase of approximately 1 million visitors since 2019, underscoring the success of Los Cabos’ evolving tourism approach.
A standout feature of the new platform is the AI-powered recommendation engine. This tool helps users narrow down their search based on personal interests such as dining, accommodations, and activities. Esponda explained that the system is designed to understand travelers’ preferences and guide them to the most relevant options. “When users start exploring things to do in Los Cabos, the click-through rate is 91%, showing how effectively it directs them to what they’re looking for.”
Travel advisors benefit from the AI tool as well. The platform allows them to craft customized itineraries tailored to their clients’ interests, whether they’re looking for family-friendly activities, culinary experiences, or adventure-filled excursions. Additionally, the platform features interactive maps that assist advisors with logistics, ensuring that clients have a smooth and well-organized trip from start to finish.
Esponda also revealed that the tourism board is already working on the next phase of its digital strategy. “We started developing this platform over a year and a half ago, and we’re already working with partners to launch the next iteration within the next two years,” he said. This upcoming update will further enhance the advisor-focused tools, including aerial maps and features that simplify the planning of multifaceted trips, such as combining stays in East Cape and Cabo San Lucas.
Looking ahead, Los Cabos remains committed to offering an exceptional experience for visitors. With a focus on quality, Esponda noted that 40% of travelers are returning for a second visit. “Our goal moving forward is to maintain satisfaction levels while encouraging longer stays and higher spending,” he explained. Major developments slated for 2025 include the opening of the Park Hyatt and a new village at Cabo del Sol, which will combine art, gastronomy, shopping, and entertainment. By 2026, high-profile projects such as properties from Aman, St. Regis, and Soho House will further solidify Los Cabos as a premier luxury destination.
