An international anti-Tuberculosis organization has called on the Kenyan government to initiate TB screening in schools to address the rising cases of the disease in the country. The Stop TB Partnership, based in Geneva, Switzerland, and comprising over 2,000 governmental and non-governmental organizations, has emphasized the urgent need for this measure. The organization has also urged the Ministry of Education to improve school infrastructure to prevent the spread of TB.
Evaline Kibuchi, Stop TB Partnership’s Coordinator in Kenya, highlighted that overcrowded school environments are prime breeding grounds for TB. She stressed that enhancing infrastructure and reducing congestion in schools are critical steps to curbing the transmission of the disease among students. The call to action aims to protect the health of schoolchildren and mitigate the increasing TB cases in Kenya.
