Investigation Underway After Death of Former Kericho MCA Bernard Mutai

The body of Bernard Mutai, the former Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Kipchimchim Ward in Kericho, was discovered hanging from a rafter in his bedroom on Thursday afternoon. Mutai, who served two terms as the MCA from 2012 to 2017 and from 2017 to 2022, was found dead in his home, leaving the community and authorities in shock and confusion.

The grim discovery was made in the afternoon by a family member or close acquaintance, whose identity has not been disclosed. The scene was immediately reported to local authorities, and the police have since launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mutai’s death.

Taiwet Sub-location Assistant Chief Philemon Koskei confirmed the death but refrained from providing further details, citing the ongoing investigation. “The death of Bernard Mutai is indeed unfortunate and has left many in our community in disbelief. However, at this point, we are limited in what we can disclose as the police are handling the case and examining all possible angles,” Koskei stated.

Mutai, a well-known figure in Kericho’s political landscape, had a significant impact on the community during his tenure. His leadership in Kipchimchim Ward was marked by various development projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents. They are working to rule out any foul play and are collecting evidence to understand the full circumstances leading up to Mutai’s death.
