President William Ruto has emphasized that increased investments in education and infrastructure are yielding positive results. Speaking in Elgeyo-Marakwet County on Thursday during the commissioning of the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Kerio Valley Campus, the President lauded the improved performance in the recently released Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results.
“The teachers we hired, the facilities we provided, and the additional budget we have committed have begun to bear fruit,” he said, noting that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) subjects have shown significant improvement. Girls, in particular, demonstrated better results compared to previous years.
The President attributed this success to the government’s recruitment of 56,000 teachers and announced plans to hire an additional 20,000. He further committed to increasing KMTC’s budget by KSh600 million to employ 400 tutors, ensuring every county is equipped with modern training facilities for health personnel.
To enhance higher education access, President Ruto highlighted the student-centered funding model, which has stabilized public universities and enabled KMTC students to secure loans from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
In Tot, Marakwet East, the President commissioned Liter Girls High School, which had been destroyed by a mudslide five years ago, urging parents to enroll their children. He announced a KSh100 million allocation for rebuilding other schools in the region.
Additionally, the President inspected several infrastructure projects, including the 30km Kapcherop-Kamelei road and the Kapcherop Technical and Vocational College. He also broke ground for Moi’s Bridge-Matunda Water Supply Project in Uasin Gishu County.
On electricity, Ruto revealed that KSh500 million has been allocated for Last Mile Connectivity in Kakamega County, with an additional KSh600 million planned for the next financial year.
The President reiterated his commitment to uniting Kenyans, warning against divisive politics.
Governors Wisley Rotich (Elgeyo-Marakwet), Fernandes Barasa (Kakamega), and Jonathan Bii (Uasin Gishu) joined him at the events alongside other leaders.
