An Israeli airstrike in Gaza City on Sunday resulted in the death of Ehab al-Ghussein, a senior official in the Hamas-run government. According to Hamas, al-Ghussein, who served as the Deputy Minister of Labor, was killed along with three other individuals during the strike on the Holy Family School in Gaza City.
The Israeli military confirmed carrying out strikes in the area, stating that it targeted “a complex inside of which terrorists were operating and hiding in the area of a school building in Gaza City.
While it is not explicitly confirmed if this particular strike resulted in the death of the senior Hamas official, the military emphasized that “numerous steps were taken in order to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precise aerial surveillance and additional intelligence.”
This incident occurred amidst escalating violence, as another Israeli attack on a school in Gaza killed at least 16 Palestinians and injured 50 others, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The strike, which took place at UNRWA’s Al-Jaouni school in al-Nuseirat camp in central Gaza on Saturday, targeted a facility sheltering displaced people.
The Israeli military stated that militants were operating in structures located in the school area, although CNN has not been able to independently verify either the casualty figures provided by the Palestinian Ministry of Health or the Israeli military’s claims.
