The 2024 NCBA Golf Series showcased its competitive spirit this past Saturday at the prestigious Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club. The 18-hole course played host to over 100 golfers from across the region, all vying for a chance to secure spots in the series’ Grand Finale later this year.
The tournament, the eighth leg of the NCBA Golf Series, was played in a medal format, adding to the intensity and excitement of the day. The standout performer was Jean Pierre Smith, who, with a handicap of 14, clinched the Overall Winner title with an impressive 66 Nett score. His exceptional performance underscored his skill and consistency on the course.
In the Gross Winner category, Alishaan Merali, who plays off a handicap of 3, achieved a notable 77 Gross score, setting a high benchmark for the competition. The Division One category saw Nguru Wachira, with a handicap of 12, finishing first with a 67 Nett score, while Peter Wairegi, also with a handicap of 12, was the Runner-Up with a 73 Nett score.
Division Two’s top spot went to James Mburu, playing off a handicap of 19, who recorded a 68 Nett score. Karim Charania, with a handicap of 14, followed closely as the Runner-Up with a 71 Nett score.
In the Ladies category, Tazz Padamshi emerged victorious with a strong 70 Nett score, showcasing her impressive skills. The Junior category was dominated by Amar Shah, who, with a handicap of 9, carded a commendable 78 Nett score. George Kirathe, with a handicap of 16, took the top honors in the Guest category with a 69 Nett score.
The event also featured special accolades: Adan Mohamed and Maria Zeller excelled with their “Nearest to the Pin” shots, while Joshua Maina and Sonia Patel were recognized for their “Longest Drive” achievements in the Men’s and Ladies’ categories, respectively.
John Guchu, the NCBA Bank TRM Branch Manager, expressed his enthusiasm about the event. “The NCBA Golf Series is a fantastic platform for Kenyan golfers to showcase their skills and compete at a high level. We were thrilled to see such a strong turnout and exceptional performances at the Windsor qualifier,” he said. Guchu also extended his congratulations to all winners, particularly those advancing to the Grand Finale, and highlighted the bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability through a donation of indigenous tree seedlings to Windsor Golf Club.
The NCBA Golf Series continues its journey with the next event at Mombasa Golf Club on July 23, followed by a qualifier at Moi Airbase on July 27. Golfers and enthusiasts can look forward to more exciting competitions as the series progresses towards its Grand Finale later in the year.
