Excitement has engulfed Igembe constituency as Member of Parliament John Paul Mwirigi announced the upcoming construction of a Huduma Centre in the region. Speaking on Saturday at Auki Primary School in Igembe South during the issuance of bursary forms to students, Mwirigi highlighted the significance of this development in bringing government services closer to the people.
Residents of Kiegoi and Antubochiu wards expressed joy, calling the Huduma Centre a major milestone in easing access to crucial services. Previously, locals endured long and costly trips to Meru Town for services such as ID registration, birth certificates, and driving licenses.
“Having the Huduma Centre in Igembe South sub-county means that our people will no longer have to endure long trips to Meru for government services,” said Mwirigi. “This will make services more accessible, reduce travel costs, and save valuable time for many of our residents.”
Construction of the facility is set to commence this January. Once operational, the Huduma Centre will offer a broad range of services, including the issuance of IDs, birth certificates, driving licenses, and CRB clearance forms, among others.
Mwirigi emphasized the transformative potential of the project, which is expected to boost local economic growth by cutting costs and fostering convenience. The Huduma Centre will serve five sub-counties: Igembe Central, Igembe South, Igembe North, Mutuati, and the neighboring Tigania East.
“This is part of my broader vision to enhance infrastructure and improve service delivery in Igembe South,” Mwirigi noted.
The project aligns with the national government’s initiative to expand Huduma Centres across all counties. In October 2024, Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi affirmed the government’s commitment to improving service delivery. He noted that the Huduma program has revolutionized public service, making it more accessible and efficient for Kenyans.
With construction set to begin shortly, residents eagerly anticipate the positive changes the Huduma Centre will bring to their daily lives, marking a new chapter in service delivery for Igembe and surrounding areas.
