The Jubilee Live Free Cycling Race is gearing up for its highly anticipated third edition on September 29th in Nairobi. Organized by Nairobi Bike Race, this event is set to attract an impressive 2,500 cyclists from 21 countries, including Ethiopia, Eritrea, the USA, France, Tanzania, Uganda, and Rwanda. The race not only promises intense competition but also serves as a platform to raise awareness about healthy living and inspire behavioral change.
Jubilee Insurance, the event’s principal sponsor, has invested Ksh. 20 million in this year’s race. This sponsorship underscores the company’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle and aligning with their brand promise of enabling people to “live free.” Caroline Ndungu, Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs at Jubilee Insurance, expressed enthusiasm about the race’s role in fostering discussions on health and societal impact. “Our brand promise is centered on enabling people to live free, and this event naturally ties in with that vision. We are excited about the third edition, not only for the platform it provides for competition and fun but also for its role in fostering conversations that inspire behavioral change and drive meaningful societal impact,” Ndungu said. She also highlighted their ambition to elevate the event’s profile, envisioning it as a potential “Tour de Kenya” in the future.
Dr. Julius Kipngetich, Chief Executive Officer of Jubilee Insurance, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the race’s significance beyond sports. “It’s an opportunity for us to engage with our community while addressing critical challenges through our shared commitment to health, sustainability, and positive change,” Kipngetich remarked. This perspective highlights the event’s broader goals, which include not just promoting fitness but also addressing issues of financial prudence and sustainable living.
The race will be flagged off at Nyayo National Stadium and will feature six distinct categories catering to a wide range of participants. The categories include the 60km main race, a 12km family fun ride, the 48km Black Mamba ride, a 2km kiddies’ race, and a 48km para-cycling race. Additionally, the event will showcase a 60km team race, where each team comprises six riders, adding a collaborative element to the competition.
Loise Wachira, Director of Nairobi Bike Race, highlighted the impact the event has had in previous years and the excitement surrounding this edition. “The last two editions of the Jubilee Live Free Race have made a significant impact, and this year, we are excited to present an even more thrilling event. This year’s race will not only offer cyclists a chance to showcase their skills and be recognized for their achievements but also provide families with memorable opportunities to bond and participate in engaging activities,” Wachira said. She emphasized the event’s role in promoting cycling enthusiasm and community engagement.
The Jubilee Live Free Race is more than just a sporting event; it represents a community effort to promote wellness and positive societal change. By bringing together cyclists from diverse backgrounds and fostering a spirit of healthy competition, the race aims to inspire individuals and communities alike to embrace healthier lifestyles.
As the countdown to the race begins, participants and spectators alike are gearing up for what promises to be an exhilarating day filled with competition, community engagement, and celebration of cycling. With its blend of competitive spirit and commitment to social impact, the Jubilee Live Free Cycling Race is set to make its mark as a significant event in Kenya’s sporting calendar.
