President William Ruto on Friday presided over the swearing-in of three new Cabinet Secretaries at State House, Nairobi, emphasizing his confidence in their capacity to deliver on their mandates and meet the expectations of the Kenyan people.
Mutahi Kagwe was officially sworn in as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, Lee Kinyanjui as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, and William Kabogo as the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy.
The appointments of the three leaders were confirmed by the National Assembly after a rigorous vetting process that assessed their qualifications and suitability for the roles. The process was marked by a focus on their past accomplishments in public service and their potential to drive key national agendas.
In his address, President Ruto underscored his trust in the trio, highlighting their extensive experience in public administration. “Without exception, all three of the new Cabinet Secretaries have extensive and diverse experience in both executive and legislative facets of our public service. For this reason, I am confident in the skills and capabilities that they bring to their new roles,” the President stated.
Ruto further articulated his expectations of the newly appointed officials, urging them to prioritize professionalism, fairness, and a people-centered approach in their duties. He highlighted their critical roles in advancing his administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, aimed at addressing economic challenges and fostering inclusive growth.
“I expect you to serve the people of Kenya with dedication, professionalism, fairness, and understanding. We must do more to minimize misunderstandings and enlist all citizens in the collective task of national transformation,” the President emphasized.
The three leaders bring significant experience to their new roles. Mutahi Kagwe previously served as a Cabinet Secretary, where he earned recognition for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lee Kinyanjui and William Kabogo have both held gubernatorial roles, demonstrating strong administrative and leadership capabilities.
Their nomination in December 2024 was part of a broader reshuffle announced by President Ruto to strengthen the senior ranks of his administration. The move signaled his intent to inject fresh energy into key ministries as Kenya navigates pressing economic and social challenges.
As they take up their roles, Kagwe, Kinyanjui, and Kabogo are expected to spearhead transformative initiatives in their respective ministries, contributing to the President’s vision of national development and economic revitalization.
The swearing-in marks a pivotal moment for the administration, as these new appointees take on the responsibility of driving policies that align with the aspirations of the Kenyan people.
