Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa has announced the resumption of the bursary distribution program to support underprivileged students, despite ongoing financial challenges faced by the County Government. The announcement was made during an address at Eshisiru Catholic Church.
Governor Barasa detailed that the bursary distribution exercise would begin on Tuesday and continue through Friday of next week. This initiative aims to provide much-needed financial assistance to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring they have the resources necessary to pursue their education.
In his address, Governor Barasa did not shy away from addressing the financial hurdles currently impacting the county’s operations. He attributed these difficulties to delays in the disbursement of funds from the National Government. According to the Governor, Kakamega County, along with many others, has not received its share from the equitable revenue kitty since April this year. This delay has significantly impacted essential services and halted various development projects within the county.
Despite these financial setbacks, Governor Barasa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting education. He emphasized the importance of the bursary program in enabling students to continue their studies without the burden of financial constraints. “Education is a fundamental right and a crucial pillar for the development of our society. We cannot let our financial challenges hinder the future of our children,” he said.
The announcement was met with appreciation from the local community, especially from parents and students who have been eagerly awaiting the resumption of the bursary program. The support is expected to alleviate some of the financial pressures faced by many families in Kakamega County.
Governor Barasa also called on the National Government to expedite the disbursement of funds to ensure the smooth operation of county services and projects. He stressed the need for timely financial support to maintain the momentum of development initiatives and to avoid further disruptions.
As the bursary distribution kicks off next week, the Governor’s administration hopes to bring a positive impact on the lives of many students, fostering an environment where education can thrive despite the current economic challenges.
