Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka joined the family of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi to pay tribute to Kivuti’s late son, Eric Mutugi Kivuti. Eric, fondly referred to as “The Contemplator,” passed away in December 2024 after a short illness at MP Shah Hospital.
In an emotional eulogy, Kalonzo described Eric as a deeply cherished individual, highlighting the moving tributes shared by family, friends, and colleagues. He offered words of comfort, referencing scripture from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4: “God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.” Kalonzo expressed his heartfelt condolences, praying for strength and solace for the grieving family.
President William Ruto also conveyed his sympathies following Eric’s passing. In a December 2024 statement, Ruto described Eric as a promising young man whose life was tragically cut short. “I join the family of Hon. Lenny Kivuti in mourning the loss of his beloved son, Eric Mutugi. May God grant the family strength, comfort, and peace during this difficult time,” Ruto said.
Eric’s passing left the Kivuti family devastated. The former Senator shared his sorrow on Facebook, announcing the cancellation of their family Christmas celebrations to mourn the loss. “I am very sad. Very sad! I lost my beloved son, Eric Mutugi, at MP Shah Hospital yesterday after a short illness. Please join my family in funeral plans for my beloved son. God bless his soul in heaven,” Kivuti wrote.
Lenny Kivuti served as the Senator of Embu County from 2013 to 2017 and previously as a Member of Parliament. As friends, political leaders, and family gathered to honor Eric’s memory, his legacy as “The Contemplator” resonated deeply with those who knew him.
The funeral service was a moment of reflection and unity, as attendees celebrated Eric’s life and prayed for his eternal rest.
