As the New Year dawned, tragedy struck in various parts of Kenya, leaving three people dead in separate incidents under investigation by police.
In Kasarani, Nairobi, 35-year-old Solomon Kamau lost his life after being stabbed in the neck with a broken piece of glass during a confrontation on January 1. The incident occurred at a popular business center in the area, where the victim bled profusely before being rushed to a nearby hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
The assailant was later attacked by a mob, who stoned and beat him with sticks before police arrived to rescue him. The suspect was taken to the hospital for treatment and is now in police custody awaiting arraignment. Authorities recovered bloodstained shards of glass at the crime scene and are investigating the motive behind the attack.
Meanwhile, in Nguo Village, Laikipia West’s Rumuruti area, a New Year’s celebration at a local church turned violent, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old boy. An argument broke out among attendees, leading to an assault that left the teenager fatally injured. Another victim sustained serious injuries and was admitted to the hospital in stable condition.
Police are actively pursuing the assailants involved in the church altercation. The deceased’s body has been taken to a local mortuary for an autopsy as investigations continue.
In a third incident, the body of 40-year-old Joseph Kamau Ndirangu was discovered in Maji Mazuri Forest, Koibatek, Baringo County. Police found deep cuts on the back of his head, suggesting foul play. Investigators suspect the man was killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the forest. The body has been moved to the mortuary, with an autopsy scheduled to determine the cause of death.
Authorities have yet to establish the motives and perpetrators behind these tragic events. As the investigations unfold, the incidents serve as grim reminders of the importance of community safety and vigilance in the New Year.
