Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has renewed its commitment to the World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally by injecting KSh 209 million for the 2025 event, which will take place from March 20 – 23 in Naivasha. This strategic investment underscores KCB’s long-standing role as a leading sports sponsor in Kenya, reinforcing its dedication to both local talent and national socio-economic growth.
The sponsorship includes significant contributions to local drivers, with KCB sponsoring four rally participants: Nikhil Sachania, Evans Kavisi, Tinashe Gatimu, and Karan Patel. Gatimu will make her debut in the WRC Safari Rally as part of the KCB Racing team, while Kavisi will return to the sport after a year-long break. The bank’s support extends beyond financial backing, as it plays a crucial role in enhancing Kenya’s motorsport scene and showcasing the country’s potential on the global stage.
KCB Group CEO Paul Russo emphasized the importance of the event, stating that the WRC Safari Rally is more than just a motorsport competition, but a platform for showcasing Kenya’s capabilities to the world. He highlighted that the bank’s involvement is aimed at pushing boundaries, helping local drivers excel, and promoting socio-economic goals through sports.
Of the KSh 209 million, KSh 100 million will be directed to the Kenya Motorsport Federation to facilitate event preparations and logistics. An additional KSh 23 million will support the four local drivers, ensuring they have the resources to compete at the highest level. Meanwhile, KSh 86 million will be dedicated to event activations, hospitality, branding, and the “Revvvisha na KCB” campaign, which encourages a culture of savings among Kenyans.
Since the WRC Safari Rally returned to Kenya in 2021, KCB has invested over KSh 800 million, further solidifying its role in developing motorsports in the country. The bank’s total investment in motorsports over the past two decades stands at KSh 2.3 billion.
Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Salim Mvurya, commended KCB for its unwavering support, noting that the WRC Safari Rally has become an integral part of Kenya’s global sporting calendar, benefiting the economy and local communities.
Beyond motorsports, KCB has incorporated sustainability into its strategy, adopting SDG 13 on Climate Action. The bank aims to plant 3,000 trees during this year’s rally and promote environmental awareness through a school art competition in Nakuru County. Additionally, KCB is focused on ensuring the safety of participants and empowering youth, women, and small businesses through its involvement in the rally.
The 2025 WRC Safari Rally promises to be another thrilling chapter in Kenya’s motorsport history, drawing global attention to the country’s capabilities both on and off the track.
