The long-awaited results for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will be released today, as confirmed by the Ministry of Education. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba had previously stated that the results would be announced in the second week of January 2025, and true to his word, the time has arrived for the over 965,000 candidates who sat the exams to learn their fate.
The KCSE exams began on October 28, 2024, and were administered across 10,755 exam centres nationwide. The candidates who participated in this year’s exam represent a wide range of students, each with their unique academic journey. This year’s exam period was one of high anticipation, particularly as it followed a series of reforms in the education system, including adjustments to exam formats and a heightened focus on academic integrity.
In his announcement, CS Ogamba revealed that the Ministry of Education had recorded 621 cases of examination malpractices during this year’s KCSE. These cases were reported across 198 exam centres, underscoring the challenges the government faces in maintaining the credibility and integrity of the examination process. Despite this, the ministry has worked tirelessly to ensure that the results are accurate and that those responsible for malpractices are held accountable.
To facilitate the timely and efficient processing of the results, the government contracted 32,800 examiners for this year’s marking exercise, an increase from the 29,876 examiners deployed in 2023. This boost in personnel was intended to expedite the marking process and ensure that candidates’ results were ready as quickly as possible. In addition to the KCSE results, the marking of the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams has already been completed, adding to the overall efforts to streamline the national examination process.
As students, parents, and educators eagerly await the announcement, today marks a significant milestone in the academic calendar, one that will determine the future paths of thousands of students across the country.
