RC Generate, a Rotary Club associated with the Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen), has set its sights on securing $400,000 in grants from Rotary International to amplify its impact on Kenyan communities. The club, which has already implemented high-impact projects worth Ksh. 2 million, is now broadening its membership and scaling up its initiatives to align with Rotary’s global focus areas.
Expanding Vision and Membership
During a recent engagement held in Nairobi, RC Generate President Frank Ochieng outlined the club’s strategic roadmap, dubbed the #FormNiFour strategy. This three-year plan aims to expand membership, increase community impact, boost public awareness about Rotary’s service projects, and enhance fundraising capabilities.
“We began as a club exclusive to KenGen employees. However, we are now opening our doors to peace-loving individuals who share our ideals of service,” said Ochieng, who also serves as KenGen’s Marketing and Corporate Communication Manager.
This shift reflects the club’s evolving mission to create a broader footprint in society while leveraging the values and skills of diverse members.
Leveraging KenGen’s Resources and Rotary’s Ideals
RC Generate’s close partnership with KenGen has been pivotal in driving impactful initiatives in education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. The club has also collaborated with golf clubs to fundraise for life-changing causes.
“KenGen’s commitment to sustainability aligns seamlessly with Rotary’s ideals of service. Together, we can create lasting transformations in the communities we serve,” added Ochieng.
Rotary District Governor Applauds Efforts
Rotary District 9212 Governor Dr. Joe Kamau lauded RC Generate’s initiatives during his visit to the club. He encouraged the members to seize the opportunities provided by Rotary International’s grants to enhance their outreach.
“These grants are designed to create meaningful and sustainable change. By aligning your projects with Rotary’s seven areas of focus—such as disease prevention, water and sanitation, basic education, and economic development—you can significantly transform communities,” said Dr. Kamau.
He also stressed the importance of accountability, urging clubs to maintain audited books of accounts, adhere to prudent financial practices, and comply with Rotary International standards to qualify for grant funding.
“Grant funding is a game-changer, but clubs must demonstrate accountability and transparency. RC Generate is well-positioned to meet these requirements and access significant resources,” Dr. Kamau emphasized.
Building on a Strong Foundation
Since its inception, RC Generate has implemented projects that resonate deeply with the needs of local communities. The club’s unique position as a partner of KenGen has enabled it to leverage resources effectively for maximum impact.
President Ochieng expressed optimism about the club’s future, highlighting its solid foundation and partnerships.
“With our strong foundation and partnership with KenGen, combined with Rotary’s global reach, we are well-placed to create transformative change. Together, we can achieve even greater milestones,” Ochieng said.
The Path Ahead
As RC Generate positions itself for the $400,000 grant, its strategic growth plan and emphasis on compliance place it on a promising trajectory. The club’s focus on expanding membership and aligning with Rotary’s areas of focus ensures that it is well-prepared to make a lasting difference in Kenyan communities.
This initiative underscores the power of collaboration between organizations like KenGen and Rotary International in fostering sustainable community development. Through transparency, accountability, and innovative strategies, RC Generate is set to scale new heights in service delivery, impacting lives across Kenya.
