Kenya Launches China Tea Trade Hub, Targets 1 Million Kilograms in Export by Year-End

In May 2024, the government launched the China-Kenya Tea Trade Center in Fujian Province, China, aimed at facilitating the distribution of Kenyan tea within the Chinese market. The inaugural shipment, consisting of 700 packages, is scheduled to depart by the month’s end. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing trade relations and expanding market access for Kenyan tea producers in China.

In parallel efforts to bolster the tea industry, a farmer sensitization initiative led by CS @mithika_Linturi included visits to Nduti and Makomboki tea factories in Murang’a County, as well as Gitugi and Githuthi tea factories in Nyeri County. This engagement underscores the government’s commitment to supporting smallholder tea farmers and improving production standards across various regions of Kenya.
