Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating the brutal murder of a 70-year-old woman whose lifeless body was discovered in her compound in Kiambwe village, Ndia constituency.
The deceased, identified as Hellen Muthoni Mwai, was found dead on Wednesday, July 17, after being attacked by unknown assailants. Kirinyaga West Sub-County Police Commander Moses Koskei confirmed that Muthoni had sustained severe head injuries, and her body was located approximately 20 meters from her house.
Family members and residents of Kiambwe village have been left in shock following the gruesome killing. Beatrice Wangari, Muthoni’s sister, who was alone at the homestead at the time, was overwhelmed with grief as she recalled their last conversation.
“I cannot believe Muthoni is gone; we were chatting just yesterday,” Wangari lamented, struggling to come to terms with the tragic loss.
Joyce Gakuhi, the deceased’s niece, traveled from Kibirigwi upon receiving the devastating news. She described the murder as shocking and unprecedented within their family.
“We have never experienced such an incident before. My aunt was a peaceful and kind woman, and we want justice for her,” Gakuhi stated.
Local residents expressed concerns over the rising cases of insecurity in the area, calling on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We are scared because we don’t know who is behind this heinous crime. We urge the authorities to ensure those responsible are arrested and held accountable,” said one of the villagers.
Police have launched investigations into the incident, with officers collecting evidence from the crime scene to aid in identifying Muthoni’s killer. Authorities are also urging members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in the probe.
