Police have arrested another suspect linked to the gruesome murder of Mombasa-based taxi driver Victoria Mumbua Muloki, whose body was discovered in a thicket near Lari, Kiambu County, in September 2024. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Martin Asembo Masemo, is believed to be an accomplice of the main suspect, Edwin Ng’etich.
According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Masemo is suspected of being involved in the murders of both Muloki and another taxi driver, George Njuguna Ndung’u, who was killed on July 31, 2024, in Migori. The DCI revealed that Masemo’s alleged partner in crime, Edwin Kipngetich, is already facing charges at the Nakuru High Court.
Masemo was taken into custody and is set to appear in court for a custodial order application, allowing detectives to conclude their investigations into his alleged involvement in the murders. Authorities believe that the new arrest could provide crucial information regarding the murder cases and possibly expose a larger criminal syndicate targeting taxi drivers.
The arrest is part of an ongoing crackdown on organized crime following a rise in targeted killings of taxi drivers across the country. Investigators suspect that the killings may be linked to carjacking rings or disputes within the taxi business.
In a separate but equally disturbing development, detectives arrested a 39-year-old woman, Wangari Kirisa, in connection with the murder of Maxwell Wamwea, a resident of Kasarani. The incident, which occurred on May 11, 2022, was initially reported as a case of mob justice.
Kirisa was apprehended at an Airbnb in Thindigua, Kiambu County, following a thorough investigation launched after a complaint letter was filed on November 19, 2023. Upon reviewing the case, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) recommended that Kirisa, along with another suspect who remains at large, be charged with the murder.
Kirisa is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Friday, February 21, 2025, where she is expected to face formal charges. Authorities continue to pursue the second suspect as investigations into the case intensify.
The two arrests underscore the government’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims of violent crime, with detectives actively following leads to dismantle criminal networks across the country. Citizens are encouraged to report suspicious activities to help curb rising crime rates.
