Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has ignited fresh political discourse after hinting at a potential presidential run in 2027, with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as his deputy. Speaking during an interview on Hot 96 Breakfast show, Owino praised Nyoro as a “high performer,” stating that together they could launch a formidable bid without the need for extensive campaign machinery.
“It all depends on the decisions we make together with my brother Ndindi… If we decide to pursue the presidency today, with Ndindi as my deputy, we could do it without even needing to hire agents—asubuhi mapema!” Owino remarked confidently.
He also mentioned several political heavyweights as potential allies in such a coalition, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Edwin Sifuna, James Orengo, Eugene Wamalwa, Gladys Wanga, Irungu Kang’ata, and George Natembeya. His comments suggest a strategy rooted in unity and competence.
Owino took the opportunity to criticize the current administration, expressing disappointment in both President William Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja. He accused Sakaja’s administration of mismanaging Ksh.380 million disbursed by the World Bank for road projects in Embakasi East, Mathare, and Roysambu, alleging that contractors have since abandoned the projects due to corruption.
“The World Bank did release Ksh.380 million to improve our roads, yet contractors have abandoned the sites. Nothing is happening. The funds have been squandered. Who is accountable? The governor of Nairobi,” Owino lamented.
On President Ruto, Owino expressed regret that the Head of State has not lived up to expectations, saying, “This is a president who had the potential to be the best in Kenya… but as we move towards 2027, I know that he’s losing it because of the obvious things.”
Owino concluded by saying he is “spoilt for choice” regarding 2027, with supporters urging him to consider both the presidency and the Nairobi gubernatorial race. “I believe I’m more than qualified for all these roles,” he said, underscoring his political ambition and positioning himself as a key figure to watch ahead of the next general election.
