Bomas of Kenya, the premier cultural heritage center, has announced a temporary two-month closure to facilitate improvements aimed at enhancing visitor experiences. The institution, which has played a key role in preserving and showcasing Kenya’s rich cultural heritage, is taking this time to revamp its services and introduce new cultural offerings.
In a statement shared on social media, Bomas of Kenya expressed gratitude to Kenyans for their continued support while explaining the reason for the temporary closure.
“Bomas of Kenya wishes to inform you that we will be taking a two-month break from offering our cultural services,” the notice read. “This is to allow us to enhance our offerings and introduce improved services and products that will elevate your cultural experience with us.”
Despite the physical closure, the institution will continue to offer off-site cultural services, including traditional dance performances. This ensures that Kenyans and international visitors can still experience Kenya’s diverse cultural expressions even as the facility undergoes improvements.
“Additionally, we are still offering off-site services, including traditional dance performances among others. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to welcoming you back with enriched services,” the statement concluded.
Bomas of Kenya was established in 1971 by the Government of Kenya under the Companies Act (CAP 486), as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kenya Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), now known as the Kenya Development Corporation (KDC). It remains the only national body with a mandate in cultural tourism, committed to preserving the authenticity of Kenya’s cultures and portraying them in their purest form.
Over the years, Bomas of Kenya has been instrumental in educating both locals and tourists about the country’s diverse traditions through music, dance, and other cultural exhibitions. The planned improvements are expected to further cement its role as a leading cultural institution.
As Kenyans and visitors eagerly await its reopening, the promise of enhanced services and an improved cultural experience signals a bright future for the iconic institution. The Bomas of Kenya remains dedicated to its mission of safeguarding and celebrating Kenya’s cultural heritage for generations to come.
