The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched an investigation into a reported car theft that occurred during the highly anticipated World Cup qualifier match between Kenya and Gabon at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
According to the DCI, the victim had parked his vehicle, a silver Toyota IST with registration number KBN 093B, by the roadside along Kisauni Road behind the Nairobi West Hospital before proceeding to watch the match. The car owner stated that he left his vehicle at around 3:40 PM, expecting to find it upon his return after the game.
However, a few minutes past 7:00 PM, after the match concluded, the man returned to an empty parking space. Shocked by the disappearance of his vehicle, he promptly reported the incident at Akila Police Station in Lang’ata.
Authorities are now investigating the theft and have urged anyone with relevant information to come forward to aid in the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police in Juja are investigating the theft of another vehicle, a white Toyota Axio, which was stolen from a residential home in Matangi, near Rurii Primary School, Kimbo.
The vehicle owner reportedly parked the car outside his residence on Saturday night but woke up the next morning to find it missing. The DCI has taken up the case and is urging residents to remain vigilant and ensure their vehicles are parked in secure areas.
These incidents highlight the rising cases of vehicle theft in Nairobi and its surrounding areas. Car owners are advised to take extra precautions, including using steering locks, alarm systems, and parking in well-lit, secure areas to deter criminals.
Law enforcement agencies have intensified their efforts to curb vehicle theft and bring perpetrators to justice. Anyone with information regarding the stolen vehicles is encouraged to report to the nearest police station or contact the DCI.
As investigations continue, affected car owners remain hopeful that their vehicles will be recovered and that those responsible will be apprehended.
