The media fraternity in Kenya is mourning the sudden demise of CGTN Africa journalist Nick Mudimba, who collapsed and died at his home in Syokimau, Machakos County, on the evening of Sunday, March 23, 2025.
Mudimba, a former journalist at KTN and Switch TV, was reportedly unwell before his death. According to family members, he had been diagnosed with uric acid on Saturday and was prescribed medication on Sunday. He appeared to be in good spirits and even watched the Harambee Stars match against Gabon before taking his medication as advised. However, he later collapsed, started convulsing, and tragically passed away.
His body was moved to a mortuary in Syokimau as an autopsy is planned to determine the exact cause of death. Colleagues and friends have described Mudimba as a hardworking, dedicated, and passionate journalist whose work had a significant impact on the media industry.
CGTN Africa, the African division of China Global Television Network, confirmed the journalist’s death, expressing their sorrow and condolences to his family. Mudimba was a senior reporter at CGTN, a position he took up after working for several other media houses, including KTN and Switch TV.
The news of Mudimba’s passing comes at a time when the Kenyan media industry is also mourning the death of another journalist, Fredrick Parsayo, who worked for the state broadcaster KBC. Parsayo’s body was discovered in his house in Kinoo on March 20, in what is suspected to be a case of suicide. Investigations into his death are ongoing.
The sudden deaths of Mudimba and Parsayo have sent shockwaves through the journalism community, with colleagues taking to social media to express their grief. Many have remembered Mudimba as a kind-hearted and helpful journalist who was always willing to support his peers.
As the media fraternity and the nation at large await the results of the autopsy, Mudimba’s death serves as a reminder of the fragility of life. His legacy as a journalist who passionately told stories and impacted lives will remain in the memories of many.
