Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has embarked on a six-day tour of the Coast region, starting Monday, April 7, 2025. The tour, dubbed “Jukwaa la Usalama Working Tour,” is set to conclude on Saturday, April 12. The main objectives of the tour are to assess the current security situation in the region, gather feedback from the public on citizen services, and strengthen community ties in efforts to ensure peace and cohesion.
Murkomen will engage with key stakeholders, including local leaders, regional and county security teams, National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs), and peace committees. The aim is to evaluate strategies to enhance security across the region, particularly in light of emerging threats such as climate change-driven extreme weather conditions and maritime challenges. During the tour, the CS will also visit disaster preparedness sites and review the effectiveness of ongoing response strategies.
An important aspect of the tour will be Murkomen’s focus on the implementation of Mobile ID Registration, with plans for a spot check on its rollout. This initiative, aimed at enhancing identification services for Kenyans, has been pivotal in increasing access to government services.
Additionally, Murkomen will meet with security personnel who are tackling both land and maritime security threats, working closely with local communities to ensure greater safety and social harmony. The public will have an opportunity to share their concerns and suggestions regarding security and the quality of services they receive from the government.
This visit underscores the government’s commitment to improving safety and ensuring that communities across Kenya receive timely, effective services, especially in regions like the Coast where security challenges have been prominent in recent years.
The tour also provides an opportunity for Murkomen to assess firsthand the state of disaster preparedness and response in light of the changing climate, a growing concern across the nation.
