Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has vowed stern action against individuals responsible for the violence that erupted in Angara Barrikoi, Narok County, leaving five people dead. Speaking during a security meeting in Kerio Valley, Murkomen assured the public that those found guilty of fanning the chaos would face the full force of the law, regardless of their position or influence.
“Calm has been restored, but we will ensure those who incited the violence are brought to justice. We will not stop at anything, and it will not matter the position one is holding,” he stated firmly.
The CS explained that government land officials were carrying out a survey in the contested area when they were ambushed. He termed the attack as unjustifiable, emphasizing that land disputes should be resolved through legal channels, not violence.
“If aggrieved, go to court, and if you lose, you can appeal,” Murkomen advised, warning that lawlessness would not be tolerated.
Violence erupted on Monday afternoon after local residents, claiming historical ownership of the land, blocked the main road to prevent the officials from conducting the survey. The situation quickly escalated, leading to clashes with police officers. A vehicle belonging to the land officials was also attacked and damaged, further fueling the community’s frustrations.
Joel Langat, the officer in charge of Angata Barrikoi Health Centre, confirmed that four individuals were brought in dead, while a fifth succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment. All victims sustained gunshot wounds.
In response, the government has deployed additional security personnel to Angara Barrikoi to maintain order and prevent further bloodshed.
Murkomen reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding the Constitution and the rule of law. “We have no allegiance to anybody except the Constitution and the law,” he said.
Meanwhile, local elders and leaders have stepped in to mediate, urging both the community and government officials to embrace peaceful dialogue to resolve the longstanding land dispute and avoid further violence.
The government continues to call for calm as investigations into the incident intensify.
