Cabinet Secretaries Deborah Barasa and Aden Duale are set to officially hand over their dockets on Tuesday following President William Ruto’s recent Cabinet reshuffle. The changes, announced last week, saw Barasa reassigned to the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, while Duale was moved to the Ministry of Health.
The reshuffle, which aimed to enhance efficiency within government ministries, also included the appointment of Hanna Wendot Cheptumo as the new Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts, and Heritage. Cheptumo’s appointment comes after Parliament rejected Stella Soi Lang’at’s nomination for the position during vetting.
The transition is expected to take place smoothly, with the outgoing ministers handing over responsibilities to their successors. The Ministry of Health, a key sector in Kenya’s development agenda, will now be under Duale’s leadership, where he is expected to tackle pressing issues such as healthcare financing and service delivery. Barasa, on the other hand, will take over environmental policies and conservation efforts at a time when climate change remains a major concern globally.
With these changes, President Ruto has reiterated his commitment to strengthening governance and ensuring the delivery of his administration’s agenda. The reassignments come amid growing calls for effective leadership in critical sectors, and the new office bearers will be under pressure to deliver tangible results in their respective ministries.
