The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched a probe into the brutal murder of a young woman in Embakasi, Nairobi. According to a statement released on their official social media pages, the tragic incident was reported by three Jua Kali residents who responded to a distress call at midnight.
The residents, who were alerted by a commotion near their houses, rushed to the scene and found two unidentified men allegedly assaulting the young woman. However, the suspects fled into the darkness upon noticing the approaching responders, leaving the victim in distress.
“Police who included CSI personnel from Nairobi area arrived at the scene to find the unresponsive body of the lady, with lowered underpants and strangulation marks on her neck,” read part of the DCI’s statement.
The young woman, believed to be in her early 20s, was declared dead at the scene. Authorities documented the crime scene before transferring her body to the City Mortuary for identification and an autopsy. The DCI has assured the public that investigations are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Cases of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) have been on the rise in Kenya, with human rights organizations urging law enforcement agencies to take swift action against such crimes. This incident has sparked concerns over the safety of women, particularly in urban areas where crime rates remain high.
Community members in Embakasi have condemned the attack and called on the government to enhance security measures. Some residents have urged law enforcement officers to increase night patrols and install better lighting in vulnerable areas to deter criminals.
“We are scared because this could happen to anyone. The government must ensure that justice is served and put measures in place to protect women and young girls,” said one resident.
The DCI has encouraged anyone with information that may assist in identifying the suspects to come forward and report anonymously through their hotline. The authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring that those responsible face the full force of the law.
As investigations continue, Kenyans are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to help curb crime and ensure justice for the victim.
