Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reassured President William Ruto not to be concerned about the numerous nicknames Kenyans have given him, emphasizing that the country’s progress remains the priority. Speaking in Mutindwa, Embakasi West, on Friday, Kindiki encouraged Ruto to remain focused on implementing developmental projects that will uplift the nation.
Kindiki highlighted the importance of the President’s initiatives, which include building schools, markets, and affordable housing, creating jobs, and fostering national unity. He urged Kenyans to support Ruto’s administration in advancing these projects, ensuring that all citizens benefit from the country’s resources without discrimination.
“Rais, usijali hata ukiitwa Kasongo bora Kenya isonge mbele. Tuunge mkono Rais apeleke Kenya mbele, ajenge mashule na miradi ya masoko. Endelea kutengeneza Kenya isonge mbele na affordable housing na kutengeneza ajira kwa vijana, na kuunganisha Wakenya wote,” Kindiki stated.
This loosely translates to: “Mr. President, don’t worry even if you are called Kasongo, as long as the country moves forward. Let’s support the President in developing the country, building schools and markets, advancing affordable housing, creating jobs for the youth, and uniting Kenyans.”
The statement comes after President Ruto humorously remarked that Kenyans seem to enjoy giving him new nicknames. Speaking in Lang’ata during his development tour of Nairobi, he noted that the public first referred to him as a hustler, then a survivor, followed by Zakayo, and now Kasongo. Most recently, he added ‘El-Chapo’ to the list after announcing, alongside Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, a plan to purchase a machine capable of making one million chapatis.
Despite the evolving nicknames, Ruto affirmed that he remains committed to his duties and welcomes the creative monikers from Kenyans. He stated that the names could even reach ten, but his focus remains on delivering services to the people.
Ruto and Kindiki have been on a five-day development tour of Nairobi County, commissioning and inspecting various projects. These development tours aim to ensure that all parts of Kenya receive equitable growth, including interior regions.
Kindiki’s remarks serve as a call for unity and support, reinforcing the government’s commitment to national progress despite political and social distractions.
