The Selection Panel for the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has unveiled the final list of candidates for the position of chairperson and members, marking a crucial step in the appointment process. Among the nine shortlisted candidates for the chairperson position is former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Margaret Mwachanya.
Other notable contenders for the chairmanship include former Busia Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa, ex-Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) member Doreen Nkatha, former Principal Secretary (PS) Micah Powon, and ex-MP Humphrey Kimani. Also on the list are John Mutegi, Komora Jilo, Susan Oyatsi, and John Otieno.
Mwachanya, alongside two fellow commissioners Paul Kurgat and Connie Nkatha Maina resigned from the IEBC in 2018 under controversial circumstances. Her inclusion in the NPSC shortlist underscores her continued interest in public service.
The selection panel has also shortlisted 29 candidates for the membership position. Some of the most prominent names include former police spokesperson Eric Kiraithe, former PS Colleta Suda, former Bomet police commander Esther Seroney, former National Youth Service (NYS) Director-General Matida Sakwa, and National Police Service (NPS) Director of Gender and Children Affairs Jostice Barmao.
The week-long interviews are set to commence on March 24, with the chairperson’s interviews taking the first two days. The selection panel has emphasized the need for all candidates to present key clearance documents from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), registered Credit Reference Bureaus (CRBs), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The public has been invited to provide credible information about the shortlisted candidates before March 20. Submissions can be made via email to npscseletionpanel2025@publicservice.go.ke or delivered in person to the Public Service Commission offices on Harambee Avenue.
Meanwhile, the National Police Service recently hosted a farewell luncheon for the outgoing NPSC commissioners, led by chairperson Eliud Kinuthia, following the completion of their six-year term. Their departure paves the way for the new leadership, which will oversee key police service functions, including recruitment, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary matters.
