Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has dismissed as fake a video circulating online that suggests he has joined President William Ruto’s administration. The video, which recapped Kalonzo’s visit to State House during the unveiling of the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) report in 2024, has fueled speculation about his political alignment.
Responding to the viral clip on Wednesday morning, Kalonzo reaffirmed his position, stating that he remains firmly in the opposition and has no intention of working with the Kenya Kwanza government. He questioned the motive behind the video, asking, “Why are they so panicky?” in a caption accompanying the widely circulated footage.
His statement comes just days after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with President Ruto, a move that has sparked debate within the opposition. Political analysts believe that Ruto is seeking to consolidate his support ahead of the 2027 general elections by courting influential opposition figures. Kalonzo has been one of the leaders rumored to be on Ruto’s radar, but he has repeatedly dismissed claims of defecting.
“The People’s Loyal Coalition will never be part of the biggest betrayal of Kenyans for political expediency and temporary comfort,” Kalonzo declared, emphasizing his commitment to the opposition’s cause. He is currently working alongside other opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa, in what they describe as a movement to “liberate” Kenya in 2027.
Meanwhile, Raila defended his recent agreement with Ruto, clarifying that he has not joined the government but is engaging with it to address key challenges facing Kenyans. The opposition leader insisted that his MoU with Ruto was solely focused on pushing for solutions to issues such as the cost of living, electoral reforms, and governance.
As political realignments continue to shape Kenya’s landscape ahead of 2027, Kalonzo’s firm stance against working with Ruto signals ongoing divisions within the opposition and growing speculation about who else may shift alliances in the coming months.
