A family in Nyandema village, Migori County, has been left homeless after a gas explosion occurred on Saturday night, reducing their house and belongings to ashes. The explosion, which took place around 11 pm, caused extensive damage to the family’s home.
Acting Assistant Chief of the area, Richard Juma, confirmed the incident, stating that the gas cylinder exploded, igniting the house and consuming everything inside. Miraculously, no one was hurt in the explosion, and the family was able to salvage a generator from the wreckage. However, they lost all their other belongings, leaving them without shelter and essential items.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, with authorities working to determine what led to the cylinder’s ignition. The police have been called to the scene, and a detailed probe is underway to establish whether there were any faults with the gas cylinder or external factors that contributed to the blast.
In the wake of the incident, Acting Assistant Chief Richard Juma urged residents in the area to exercise caution when using gas for cooking. He emphasized that there have been similar cases of gas explosions in the region and warned that this incident should serve as a crucial reminder about the potential dangers of mishandling gas cylinders.
