Concerns are rising in Machakos County following the mysterious disappearance of Muthwani Member of County Assembly (MCA) Domnic Maitha. His family, supporters, and local political leaders have called on authorities to expedite investigations into his whereabouts.
According to his wife, Juliet Ngare, Maitha left home early on Monday, March 24, to attend a session at the Machakos County Assembly. He passed by their rural home in Kaloleni, Machakos Sub-county, before proceeding to work. Later that evening, the couple spoke on the phone at around 10:30 pm, and he informed her that he would spend the night at their village home. However, by Tuesday morning, he was unreachable.
Ngare recounted her last conversation with him, saying, “He assured me he would sleep in the village. In the morning, at around 9:00 am, I tried calling him, but all his phones were switched off.” A colleague MCA later contacted her, expressing concern that they had also been unable to reach Maitha on any of his known numbers.
Worried, Ngare reached out to relatives in Kaloleni, only to learn that Maitha had never arrived at the home as planned. This prompted her, alongside his father, John Maitha, to report the disappearance at Machakos Police Station on Tuesday under OB No. 49/25/3/25 at 3:04 pm.
“This is unusual,” Ngare stated, emphasizing that Maitha was always responsive to calls and had never gone offline for extended periods. She noted that he owned three mobile phones, making it highly unlikely that all could be off at the same time.
His father, John Maitha, also confirmed seeing his son on Monday when he briefly stopped by their rural home. He had assured the family that he would return later that night, but he never did.
The legislator’s sudden disappearance has sparked tension in Machakos, with family, supporters, and fellow politicians demanding urgent action from law enforcement agencies. Authorities are yet to issue a statement regarding ongoing investigations, leaving many anxious for answers.
