Namanga detectives have arrested four suspects in connection with a violent robbery targeting an elderly Korean couple in Kajiado County. The suspects, believed to be part of a six-member gang, were apprehended in Mlolongo, Machakos County, and Mukuru Kwa Reuben in Nairobi, nearly 100 kilometers away from the crime scene.
The robbery took place on February 10, 2025, at Elmarba within Oloililai, Kajiado County, where the couple resided within the Elmarba Full Gospel Missionary Church compound. According to police reports, the gang forcibly gained entry by cutting the grills of a window at around 3 a.m. They then subdued the victims, aged 64 and 60, by tying them up with manila ropes before ransacking their home.
The robbers stole valuables, including four Samsung phones, two laptops, a golden necklace, a bracelet, a wristwatch, and a solar charger. Additionally, they coerced the couple into revealing their mobile money PINs, transferring over Ksh 260,000 before dismantling the CCTV cameras and taking the hard drive to eliminate evidence.
Hours later, good Samaritans heard faint distress calls from the victims and came to their aid, finding the shaken and bruised couple. The couple, who had been serving as missionaries for several years, reported the attack, prompting Namanga detectives and their Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) counterparts to launch investigations.
Through forensic analysis and intelligence gathering, the detectives traced the four suspects and arrested them over the weekend. One of the suspects was identified as an ex-convict. Upon their arrest, police recovered stolen items, including two television sets, two projectors, three mobile phones, and several crude weapons such as crowbars, a hacksaw, and a steel cutter. Some of these items were positively identified by the victims, who also recognized the suspects as part of the gang that terrorized them.
The four suspects were arraigned in court on Monday, February 17, where detectives sought custodial orders to facilitate further investigations. Authorities believe the gang had prior knowledge of the couple’s movements and activities before executing the attack.
Meanwhile, the search for the remaining two gang members continues, with detectives working to bring all perpetrators to justice. The South Korean embassy in Nairobi has been notified about the incident as investigations proceed.
