Four people narrowly escaped death after a massive tree fell on their house in Shirandala village, Butula Constituency, Busia County, during a heavy downpour. The family was seeking shelter inside the house when the tragic incident occurred.
According to locals, including village elder Austin Musundi, the region has been experiencing continuous heavy rains in recent days. On the fateful day, the family heard a loud bang, followed by the sudden collapse of the roof, which had been crushed by the tree. The incident trapped the four individuals inside, but they miraculously survived with only minor injuries.
“The roof collapsed, burying them inside due to the weight of the tree and the relentless rain,” Musundi said. Fortunately, the victims managed to free themselves from the debris, but they were forced to spend the night in the cold, with their belongings destroyed in the process.
The community is calling on well-wishers to provide assistance, as the family has lost their home and possessions. Local leaders are also urging the government to intervene and offer support to families affected by the ongoing rains.
This incident highlights the growing concern about the safety of homes in areas prone to heavy rainfall and the need for more resilient infrastructure to protect residents from such natural disasters.
