A joint funeral service is currently underway for six members of a family who tragically lost their lives in a road accident along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road on March 30. The service, which is being held in the Ebul Bul area of Naivasha, Nakuru County, follows the transportation of the bodies from the Naivasha Hospital Mortuary for a mass. The family members will be laid to rest today, April 8.
The victims, who include three brothers and three children, were returning from a relative’s funeral when the accident occurred near High Peak, claiming the lives of seven people. Among the deceased was also the son of the family’s household worker, who perished in the same tragic incident. The loss has left the family and the local community devastated.
The funeral service has drawn a number of senior government officials, including Members of Parliament (MPs) John Kiragu (Limuru), Martha Wangari (Gilgil), Jane Kihara (Naivasha), and Nakuru Woman Representative Liza Chelule, who are attending to offer their condolences and support.
The government has stepped in to assist the bereaved family by covering all funeral and mortuary expenses. National Assembly Majority Whip, Sylvanus Osoro, assured the family and the mourners that the government would be involved throughout the entire process, ensuring a dignified farewell for their loved ones.
“We understand the immense burden the family is facing, and the government is committed to providing the necessary support,” Osoro said, speaking during a condolence visit to the family’s home in Limuru on April 3.
Ainabkoi MP Samuel Chepkong’a also expressed his solidarity with the grieving family, emphasizing the shared pain of losing seven family members so suddenly. “We are here as mourners as well, and we want to assure the family of our unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time,” Chepkong’a remarked.
This tragic accident has united the community in mourning, with government leaders offering their support and assistance to ease the burden on the grieving family.
