Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has launched a bold political offensive against President William Ruto, likening his movement to a team of Avengers preparing for battle. After a public fallout with the administration he once served, Gachagua is positioning himself as the mastermind behind a new opposition alliance aimed at derailing Ruto’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Speaking to Weru TV, Gachagua declared that he is assembling a formidable coalition of political heavyweights, insisting that their mission is grounded in data, not tribal arithmetic or political guesswork. “We’re relying on scientific data, not guesswork. This is a precision mission to defeat the incumbent,” he stated.
Gachagua has already held strategic meetings with influential figures including former cabinet secretaries Fred Matiang’i, Mithika Linturi, and Justin Muturi, as well as seasoned politicians Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, and Mukhisa Kituyi. He believes these once-divided leaders can now unite under a common cause to end Ruto’s presidency at one term.
Central Kenya will be the coalition’s political launchpad, with Gachagua targeting the election of at least 50 MPs from the region. “We’re not just building a coalition we’re building a political machine,” he emphasized.
One of Gachagua’s key campaign promises is to dismantle Ruto’s controversial Housing Levy. Labeling it a “private enterprise masked as a government program,” he pledged to refund all contributions to Kenyans and transfer the housing program to county governments. “We will kill the Housing Levy,” he said. “The counties will rent out the houses, and Kenyans will get their money back every shilling.”
With plans to unveil a new political party in May and announce a presidential flag bearer by the end of 2026, Gachagua is banking on a grassroots movement powered by public discontent and political reinvention. The question remains: can this eclectic alliance remain united long enough to mount a credible challenge, or will it crumble under the weight of personal ambitions and past rivalries?
