Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has declared that the opposition will win the 2027 General Elections in the first round if they remain united. Speaking in Machakos County on Sunday, Gachagua emphasized the need for political alliances, saying that politics is a game of addition, not subtraction.
Addressing a congregation at the Gospel Confirmation Centre, he urged the Kamba community to support the newly founded Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) movement as a strategy to consolidate their political base ahead of 2027.
“I’m happy to come back to Machakos. You are our cousins. Sijui shetani aliingia wapi katikati yetu, lakini God’s time is the best. We are the same people, we talk the same language, and we will walk together,” Gachagua stated.
Accompanied by several MPs and senators from Central Kenya and Ukambani, Gachagua claimed that he left the government with five million votes, suggesting that the entire Mt. Kenya voting bloc had abandoned President William Ruto’s administration following his impeachment.
“This time around, while with you, we will form the government together. They thought they could chase me and remain with my people, but I left with my people,” he said.
Gachagua also assured the Akamba community that their unity with the GEMA region would secure victory in 2027. He insisted that a strong coalition across regions including the Maasai, Kisii, Luhya, and Coast communities would be enough to guarantee them power.
Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua supported the unity call, stating that Kalonzo Musyoka and Gachagua should remain together in their political ambitions. He dismissed any possibility of Kalonzo joining Kenya Kwanza, reinforcing their position as the “people’s opposition.”
Kathiani MP Robert Mbui revealed that they had been instructed by Kalonzo to welcome Gachagua to Ukambani, signaling a possible alliance.
As political realignments intensify ahead of 2027, Gachagua’s push for unity could shape the country’s next major opposition force. Whether he and Kalonzo will lead a new coalition remains to be seen.
