Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua made his first public church appearance on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at the Boiman Ol Joro-Orok Catholic Church. This visit comes weeks after his convoy was attacked by goons during a Sunday service at PCEA Mwiki Church on April 6. The Mwiki incident saw several vehicles in Gachagua’s convoy damaged, an act which the DP later described as a targeted attack on his life. In a letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Gachagua expressed his concerns about the escalating attacks on his political meetings and church events, which have occurred in various regions, including Kiambu, Naivasha, and other parts of the country.
During the church service, Gachagua was joined by worshippers in what marked a significant moment of resilience and public presence. This was his first appearance in a church setting since the Mwiki attack, underscoring his determination to continue his duties despite the threats against him. The DP later took to his X account, announcing his upcoming interview on Weru Television, where he planned to discuss “matters of our nation, our future, and our progress as a people and as Kenyans.”
This church appearance comes just weeks after Gachagua’s previous media interview on April 8 with KTN, where he made several explosive allegations against the government. The ongoing scrutiny of his actions and statements has positioned Gachagua as a key figure in the political landscape of the Mt. Kenya region. His visit to Nyandarua on April 27 holds significance as the area is considered one of his strongholds, with local leaders like Senator John Methu fiercely defending him.
The timing of Gachagua’s visit is noteworthy, as it follows President William Ruto’s tour of the region in early March, which was met with hostility, especially during a section of the tour in Nyandarua where Ruto’s team was heckled. Despite these tensions, Gachagua’s continued presence in the region signals his resolve to maintain his political influence.
