Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continued his series of strategic meetings at his Wamunyoro residence on Saturday, hosting a delegation of lawyers from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). Led by Steve Mbugua, the legal professionals engaged in discussions that delved into the country’s governance landscape, exploring both challenges and opportunities.
Gachagua, who has been actively charting his next political move, emphasized the significance of the meeting, noting that the legal experts offered valuable perspectives on constitutional law, human rights, and governance. “They brought with them a broad range of perspectives, from constitutional law to human rights, and how collectively we can uphold and promote the fundamental rights and freedom of all people,” Gachagua stated.
He acknowledged the pivotal role that the legal fraternity plays in shaping the country’s political future, adding that their insights would be instrumental as he solidifies his strategy for the coming years. With the political temperature rising ahead of the 2027 General Elections, Gachagua is making calculated moves to reestablish his influence, particularly in his Mount Kenya stronghold.
Gachagua’s rural residence has increasingly become a political hub, attracting numerous politicians seeking his endorsement and guidance. He recently announced plans to launch his political party in February, setting the stage for a potential power struggle with President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government. According to his allies, preparations for the party’s unveiling are in their final stages, and the party will serve as a key vehicle for his re-emergence in national politics.
Former Laikipia Woman Representative Catherine Waruguru, one of Gachagua’s close allies, confirmed that the party’s launch is imminent. “We are ready, and the party will be unveiled next month,” Waruguru stated, adding that blue would be one of its official colors.
Speculation is rife that Gachagua intends to field candidates in various elective seats, directly challenging those aligned with President Ruto. His move signals a growing rift within the ruling coalition, particularly in the Mount Kenya region, where Gachagua is keen on consolidating his support base.
As the 2027 elections draw closer, Gachagua’s political maneuvers are being closely watched. His engagement with key stakeholders, including the legal fraternity, underscores his determination to craft a formidable political strategy that could redefine his role in Kenya’s evolving political landscape.
