Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has reaffirmed his commitment to saving Kenya, despite his controversial impeachment. Speaking on Sunday night during an interview on Weru TV, Gachagua boldly declared that he is firmly entrenched in the politics of saving the country, focusing on addressing economic challenges and restoring the dignity of the Mt Kenya region.
Gachagua, who was impeached by Members of Parliament (MPs) not elected by the people, emphasized that his political influence remains intact. “I was not impeached by the people. I was impeached by MPs who did not elect me. Impeached or not, I am still a leader, and that is why people listen to me everywhere I go,” he remarked. He further expressed his dissatisfaction with Kenya’s economic trajectory, citing rampant corruption and mismanagement as key issues. Gachagua believes that the country is headed in the wrong direction and is determined to address these systemic issues.
A significant part of Gachagua’s vision for the country’s future involves revitalizing the Mt Kenya region. He has long been vocal about the marginalization of the region, and his leadership, he says, is dedicated to returning its lost dignity. His political agenda includes the formation of a new party, which he intends to launch in May. Gachagua envisions this party as one that will resonate deeply with the people of Mt Kenya, and he has expressed his intention to actively involve youth in the party’s leadership, including a Gen Z individual as the deputy leader.
In his statements, Gachagua made it clear that he is not willing to let the region be misled in the upcoming 2027 elections. As a result, he is forging alliances with like-minded leaders across the nation to ensure that his vision for a better Kenya becomes a reality. Gachagua’s growing criticism of President William Ruto and his administration signals a deepening political rift, setting the stage for an intense political battle in the 2027 election.
