Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wa Muchomba has once again voiced her strong criticism of President William Ruto, accusing him of abandoning his campaign manifesto and engaging in populist politics.
In a recent interview , Wa Muchomba dismissed Ruto’s promise to provide chapati to schoolchildren in Nairobi as unrealistic and misleading. She questioned the feasibility of such a pledge, arguing that the president has failed to adequately support key sectors, including the military’s meal provisions.
“We have a president who is a populist, and unfortunately, this does not augur well. All he is doing is promising popular projects that he cannot deliver. Promising the people of Nairobi chapati is simplistic. If he cannot even feed his military for lunch, what capacity does he have to feed the children of Nairobi?” she stated.
Wa Muchomba further accused the Head of State of employing divisive political tactics instead of fostering national unity. She claimed that Ruto had shifted from the tribal-based political approach to class-based strategies that pit different economic groups against each other.
“He has become a regionalist politician. He realized that Kenyans are one and that tribalism is no longer a viable political strategy, so he replaced it with the hustlers versus dynasties narrative. Now that it is not working, he is resorting to even more simplistic tactics and strategy based on classism,” she remarked.
The vocal legislator went as far as branding Ruto’s leadership as deceptive, stating that his inability to fulfill campaign promises was a betrayal of the Kenyan electorate.
“The president makes me interpret that he was a con when he does not deliver on his promises. He was not the man I believed in. The whole campaign was a con game. I want to tell Kenyans never to believe what William Ruto says because he is an orator who does not assimilate what he preaches,” she said.
Wa Muchomba’s outspoken nature has seen her face political repercussions, including her recent removal as the Chairperson of the Constitution Implementation Oversight Committee in Parliament. She attributes this move to her refusal to endorse the controversial Finance Bill and her commitment to constitutional oversight.
Despite these challenges, Wa Muchomba remains dedicated to her constituents. Recently named the best-performing MP by Infotrak Kenya, she takes pride in her initiatives, including a central kitchen that feeds 22,000 children daily. She continues to use her platform to advocate for critical issues affecting Kenyans, cementing her reputation as a fearless leader.
