Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has paid tribute to his long-serving bodyguard and aide, George Oduor, who passed away on Wednesday while undergoing treatment at a city hospital. Raila described Oduor as a vigilant, calm, and extremely professional individual who stood by him through the years, providing unwavering security and loyalty.
“George has been a part of Jaramogi’s and my family since the late 80s. We have stood, fallen, and risen together,” Raila said in his tribute. “He has been a vigilant, calm, confident, and extremely professional aide dedicated to duty and a dependable rock on my side all these years through tumultuous periods. I will miss George, and I am sorry to the myriad friends who miss him already.”
Oduor’s journey as a bodyguard began in the late 1980s when he served Raila’s father, Mzee Jaramogi Oginga Odinga. Following Jaramogi’s passing in 1994, Oduor transitioned into Raila’s security team, where he remained a constant presence for decades. His professionalism and dedication made him one of the most visible members of Raila’s security detail.
Beyond his role as a bodyguard, Oduor was also known to be a police reservist who had undergone VIP protection training both locally and internationally. His extensive experience and expertise in security matters earned him the trust and respect of those he worked with.
The loss of Oduor has been deeply felt not only by Raila and his family but also by many political allies and friends who knew him personally. Several leaders affiliated with Raila have extended their condolences to the bereaved family and to the former Prime Minister, acknowledging Oduor’s unwavering service and commitment.
“To his wife, Carol George, entire family, colleagues, and friends, I offer Mama Ida’s and the entire Jaramogi family’s sincere condolences at this devastating loss. May the Almighty rest his soul in eternal peace,” Raila added.
George Oduor’s passing marks the end of an era for Raila’s inner circle. His legacy as a dedicated and professional security aide will be remembered for years to come.
