The Government has honoured 24 retired officers from the Executive Office of the President for their unwavering dedication and distinguished service to the nation. The recognition ceremony, held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), was presided over by Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei.
The retirees, who collectively dedicated nearly 900 years of service, were celebrated during a vibrant Easter-themed luncheon, symbolising renewal and reflection. Their careers spanned between 13 and 42 years, covering significant moments in Kenya’s history, including the 1988 Mlolongo elections, the repeal of Section 2A of the Constitution, and the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.
In his address, Koskei hailed the retirees as “pillars of our governance framework” and the “quiet force behind the many milestones our country has achieved.” He praised their resilience and adaptability through transformative eras from the rise of mobile money platforms like M-PESA to the national response to health and security challenges such as the HIV/AIDS epidemic and terrorism.
“Through it all, the spirit of the Kenyan public servant, your spirit, remained unbowed,” said Koskei. He urged the retirees to continue serving the country in new ways, especially as mentors and community leaders, highlighting that retirement should be seen not as an end, but a season of purpose and renewal.
Koskei also acknowledged the vital role played by the families of the retirees, noting that their support was integral to the officers’ success. “This celebration is as much yours as it is theirs,” he affirmed.
Reflecting on changing traditions, Koskei said that retirement today goes beyond symbolic gifts, instead embracing a modern recognition of experience and legacy. The luncheon is part of broader efforts to reform and modernise the public service by honouring excellence and preserving institutional memory.
Also in attendance were Deputy Head of Public Service Amos Gathecha, Principal Administrative Secretary Arthur Osiya, and Secretary for Administration Thomas Nyamorata, among other dignitaries.
