Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has urged leaders and the public to refrain from politicising the sudden death of Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve, emphasizing the need for patience and respect as investigations get underway.
Speaking during a Citizen TV interview on Wednesday, Sakaja expressed his condolences to Munuve’s family and constituents, noting the MCA collapsed at home on Tuesday morning and was later pronounced dead at a city hospital. The governor called for a sober approach amid rising speculation, clarifying that an autopsy would be conducted on Thursday to determine the exact cause of death.
“Allow me to pass my deepest and sincere condolences to the people of Kariobangi North who lost their MCA, Joel Munuve. He collapsed at home. I don’t know why you call it murder maybe you have information but the autopsy is tomorrow,” Sakaja said. He added, “Death is a serious thing and not something we can play with or politicise.”
While noting that Munuve had no known history of illness, Sakaja stressed the importance of letting professionals determine what led to his sudden demise. He said the county government would stand with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
The Nairobi County Assembly Speaker, Kennedy Ngondi, also confirmed the MCA’s passing, saying Munuve developed chest pains while heading to work in the CBD. “He was rushed to the hospital where he died. His body is now at Lee Funeral Home awaiting autopsy,” Ngondi said.
Ngondi described Munuve as a committed and hard-working leader who always had the interests of his constituents at heart. “His relentless commitment to public service and the people of Kariobangi North will be remembered with admiration and respect,” he said.
Governor Sakaja echoed these sentiments, calling Munuve a passionate voice in the assembly. “There were times we disagreed, but we also had opportunities to meet and find common ground,” he recalled.
Sakaja urged investigative agencies to thoroughly look into the matter to quell any political speculation and ensure justice is served if foul play is confirmed.
